The Christmas Season

The Christmas Season....
Whether you know it or not... Christmas is only 50 Days from now!! I want to introduce my blog by letting you know the types of posts I will be making in the future. My blog will be based primarily on Christmas and every aspect associated with it including shopping, decorating, traditions, the dinner and parties.
Christmas is a great holiday to get excited for and can take many weeks for families to set up for.
The first topic I will discuss is the origins of Christmas.

Origins of Christmas
In the Western part of the world, the birth of Jesus Christ was on December 25, AD 354. This was replaced by the original date of January 6th. During this time, the Christian religion introduced many festivals and traditions to celebrate this exciting moment in time. This idea was then carried on to the Middle Eastern and European countries. To name a few... Egypt and Babylon celebrated with mid winter festivals and Germany celebrated with fertility festivals.

Not only was Jesus Christ born on December 25, but the Ancient Sun God Attis in Phrygia and the Persian God Mithras was as well.

This time was when people decorated with flowers, gifts, candles and celebrated the start of a new tradition.

After these important figures were born and people were celebrating and establishing traditions, many countries took part by introducing their own cultural holidays.

The carol was introduced in the 14th century and the establishment of Christmas Day was introduced in 1043.

Here are some facts related to Christmas:
  • Saint Day, which can be related to Saint Nicholas is celebrated on December 6 every year

  • The burning of the yule log is a popular activity embedded in worshipping vegetation and fire

  • It can also be linked to magical and spiritual powers when lit

  • Mistletoe and holly can be associated as a symbol of fertility

This is great Melanie! Finally, a place where us x-mas lovers can vent our excitement about the big day...

A little did you know...

The term "Father Christmas" is used in translation in many countries and languages like in Denmark - "Julemanden", Iraq - "Baba Noel", Latin - "Pater Natalis" or "Sanctus Nicholaus" and in Mexico he is known as "El NiƱito Dios" ("Child God", meaning Jesus)

Keep up the posts!
